  • FICEP: Italy’s eIDAS Node Enables Cross-Border Digital Identity Access in the EU

The CiThe FICEP project, co-funded by the European Commission, established Italy’s national eIDAS node—its first cross-border identity server.

Led by AgID in partnership with Infocert, the Polytechnic University of Turin, and Telecom Italia, the initiative enables Italian citizens to access public and private online services across the EU using SPID or CIE credentials. Likewise, EU citizens with nationally recognized eIDs can now access Italian services. Successfully validated in 2017, the FICEP infrastructure was developed entirely within Italy’s CloudPA virtual data center, setting a precedent for technological innovation in the public sector.
